Daria | Ingushetia

Choose a song:

Gyanar Bezam (Distant Love) | Daria Kulesh | Ingushetia

An Ingush lament taught to me by People’s Artist of Ingushetia Timur Dzeytov. It mirrors one of the storylines in Idris Bazorkin’s epic novel Dark Ages.

Although her heart belongs to a childhood sweetheart, a beautiful girl is being forced into marrying a rich suitor way out of her social league. She will not rebel though – that would dishonour her family. She is only allowed to express her anguish in a song.

My upcoming album Long Lost Home is inspired by Ingushetia, a fascinating republic in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia and the ancestral home of my Grandmother –who did rebel and married for love.
